Russell Wilson to Sign with Dallas Cowboys Rival? QB Visits Giants & Steelers

FRISCO - The Denver Broncos are parting ways with Russell Wilson, giving the faded Super Bowl star the freedom to choose his next team.

Could that next team be an NFC East foe of the Dallas Cowboys?

NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks sees the Giants as a suitable landing spot for Wilson as  the Super Bowl-winning quarterback - once at the top of his game with the Seattle Seahawks - tries to again find his footing.

And the Giants seemingly see it the same way, as Wilson is on the East Coast this weekend visiting with the Giants as well as the Steelers.

The issue in Denver is the desire to get out from under the weight of a bloated contract.

And he will indeed be going free.

Wilson, 36, has been linked to the Steelers, the Raiders and the Falcons and more. But could new Giants GM Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll view Wilson as an obvious upgrade to young QB Daniel Jones, who had never quite been able to get over the hump in New York?

Wilson’s two-year tenure in Denver was messy. He played poorly in 2022 after the monster trade with Seattle, and while he improved in 2023, it was clear early on that new Broncos czar Sean Payton was all about biding his time and then moving on to other options at quarterback.

The Giants have talked of a commitment to Jones, but that has not quelled speculation that they might eye a new QB with their sixth overall pick in the April NFL Draft.

Last year with the Broncos, Wilson ended up throwing for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Could he improve on those numbers in the right new setting?

The Cowboys remain ahead of the game at QB, as even with the tumult surrounding Dak Prescott’s contract, he is nevertheless an MVP-caliber performer … the sort of thing Russell Wilson once was … and in the NFC East or elsewhere, maybe could be again.
