PHOTOS: Cowboys Arrive in Oxnard - Training Camp Schedule, 3 Goals
OXNARD - The 2023 season for the NFL and the Dallas Cowboys is … essentially here. And we're here in California for all the action!
The Cowboys have traveled to Oxnard for the start of training camp with a reporting day of Monday - with what we’ve come to call “The Glory Hole Press Conference” featuring team owner Jerry Jones likely slated for early this week.
All of this is part of the ramping up to the Cowboys visiting the New York Giants for the 2023 season opener. … but there are milestones needed to get there. There are also specific camp goals, three of which we can prioritize here ...
1 - The melding of the new "Texas Coast Offense'' playbook with coach Mike McCarthy's play-calling takeover and with QB Dak Prescott's vow to fix the interception problem that plagued him last year.
2 - Contracts, contracts and more contracts. Prescott, Trevon Diggs, CeeDee Lamb and Terrence Steele were all front-burner-planned. Now we know that Zack Martin wants a new deal.
3 - Micah Parsons - he of the desire to "play eight different positions'' - and coordinator Dan Quinn's goal of overseeing the NFL's best defense.
So, it is time to take a look at the NFL calendar, which has now been officially been revealed. So, it is “Save the Dates!” time as we walk you through them …
July 24: The Cowboys arrive at training camp in Oxnard. (CowboysSI.com was here waiting!)
July 31: The Cowboys are planning their first padded practice here.
August 12: Preseason opener - The Cowboys play host to the Jaguars (6 p.m. CT).
August 19: Preseason - The Cowboys visit the Seahawks (9 p.m. CT.)
August 26: Preseason - The Cowboys play host to the Raiders (7 p.m. CT).
August 29: Cutdown Day: The deadline to reduce roster size to a max of 53 players.
August 30: The claiming period for waived players ends (11 a.m CT).
August 30: Practice squads can be established to a max of 16 players.
2023 Regular Season - September 10: Season opener - The Cowboys visit the Giants (7:20 p.m. CT) and CowboysSI.com will be there. See the full Dallas schedule analysis here.
October 31: The NFL trade deadline (3 p.m. CT).
