Is Being 'Selfish' A Coach Deion Sanders Problem at Colorado? The Dallas Cowboys Icon Reveals 'Truth'

FRISCO - How would one characterize and define Deion Sanders' first year as the head coach at the University of Colorado?

A "success'' due to the notable overall turnaround of a program that last year won but a single game? A "failure'' because after a promising start, the Buffaloes are now 4-7 and not bowl-eligible?

An exercise in "selfishness''? Remarkably, "Coach Prime'' - the iconic former Dallas Cowboys star and Pro Football Hall of Famer - seems willing to embrace the last description as much as he does the other two.

Following a recent loss that drops the CU football program to 4-7 on the year, Sanders was asked about a postgame tweet involving running back Kavosiey Smoke ... in which Smoke basically accused the team of playing selfishly.

Smoke asserted that if not for that unfortunate trait, the Buffs would be undefeated this year. Deion's reaction?

“I like that,'' the coach said. “I like that comment, I think that’s a great comment. I’d just like to quantify, like, what does that mean? So, that’s the question that I asked the team today. What does that mean? What does that mean?" Sanders said.

To Sanders, it obviously means that Smoke has a level of optimistic want-to that the coach finds appealing. ... even though there are realities here, as Colorado started out 4-2 but has now lost five straight now winds down a losing season as it will face Utah next week in the regular-season finale.

Jerry Answers ‘The Deion Question’

“I’m upset that we didn’t live up to the expectations that (Smoke) had for us,'' Deion said. “He said what he felt and he felt what he said. I have no problem with guys doing that, as long as it’s justified. That wasn’t an attack on us. That was true. I think every team has a little bit of that. I’m riding with him.”
