Should Dallas Cowboys Trade for Philadelphia Eagles Ex Jordan Hicks at Linebacker?
With the Oct. 31 trade deadline approaching, the 4-2 Dallas Cowboys will supposedly be buyers as they try to catch the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East and get atop the NFC as a whole. Perhaps a former Eagle could help them to accomplish those goals.
CowboysSI.com’s own Mike Fisher has suggested a Jordan Hicks connection here. And what might be the cost? A new trade proposal on Pro Football Focus has the Cowboys acquiring veteran linebacker Hicks from the Minnesota Vikings for a seventh-round pick.
The Cowboys have been dealing with injuries at the linebacker position, with rookie DeMarvion Overshown being lost for the season and now with Leighton Vander Esch on IR.
While there's been much speculation about Minnesota trading quarterback Kirk Cousins and his expiring contract, it's unclear if general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah would actually dump Hicks.
However, at 2-4, the Vikings seemingly will be open for business on some other veterans in contract years, such as Hicks, who is in the second season of a two-year/$10 million deal.
The 31-year-old -- who is in his ninth NFL season -- currently has 53 combined tackles, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. PFF has him with an 80.3 grade this season, noting that it's the top mark he's posted since back in 2016.
Hicks should be familiar to Cowboys fans, as he was a third-round pick by the division-rival Eagles in 2015 after playing collegiately at Texas. Hicks spent the first four seasons of his NFL career with the Eagles, and has since played for the Arizona Cardinals and Vikings.
He struggled with injuries early in his career, but hasn't missed a game since the 2018 season, so he could provide the type of stability the Cowboys are looking for at the linebacker position. … and if he can really be had for a late-round pick? This could be a match.
