'What Have I Done?!' Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones Jokes About 'Lucky' Philadelphia Eagles

'What Have I Done?!' Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones Jokes About 'Lucky' NFC East Rivals the Philadelphia Eagles

ARLINGTON - Would a football team rather be "lucky'' than "good''? Given the fact that the ball has two points and therefore takes crazy bounces, the right answer is ...

"Both.'' And as the Dallas Cowboys continue to pursue the Philadelphia Cowboys in the NFC East standings, Cowboys boss Jerry Jones cannot deny that his chief rival have been every bit "lucky and good'' - to the point he's joking about Philly's good fortune.

"What have I done to deserve this?'' Jones kiddingly lamented when asked on 105.3 The Fan what he's thinking in the last two weeks as the Eagles have someone managed to eke out wins against fellow Super Bowl threats the Chiefs and the Bills. "Why can't that ball bounce the right way?

"All of those things,'' Jones said, "go through your mind."

Understandably so, for Philadelphia has developed an uncanny knack for being "lucky'' - or, better said, for being "clutch.'' The Eagles have so far won seven games by seven points or fewer on the way to their 10-1 record.

Did they dominate in those games, which includes Dallas' down-to-the-wire 28-23 loss at Philly in Week 9? They did not; indeed, in the Eagles' last four wins, they've allowed more yards than they've gained.

The Cowboys have meanwhile built their record off of dominating lesser foes. One way to highlight the discrepancy? Dallas has an eye-popping +162 scoring margin while Philadelphia's is a paltry +64.

But, as much as Jones wishes the tide would turn - and maybe it will, because Dallas plays a winning 6-5 Seattle team on "Thursday Night Football'' while the Eagles play another powerhouse rival in the 49ers this weekend - he also recognizes that this is what we all signed up for.

"It just reminds me of all of the ways that you are involved and in many perspectives of the NFL, and the impact of games," said Jones, who would love to change some of those "perspectives'' next week when the Cowboys will be hosting the Eagles in a critical Week 14 matchup.
