'Danger' in Dallas! Seattle Seahawks Coach Previews Cowboys Week 13 on 'Thursday Night Football'
The Dallas Cowboys are synonymous with the spotlight. They’ll make yet another prime-time appearance on Thursday when they host the Seattle Seahawks to open Week 13’s festivities.
Seattle has scuffled as of late, falling to the divisional rival Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers in back-to-back weeks. At 6-5 and three games left against the elite in the NFC, playoff hopes are dissipating, adding urgency to Thursday’s affair.
The Dallas Cowboys, on the other hand, are just looking to keep the good times rolling. At 8-3, they’ve looked the part against lesser teams and are well on their way to a playoff game—the only question is where it will be played.
That’s largely in part to quarterback Dak Prescott’s MVP campaign which, while unfinished, has been trending in the right direction since Week 6. He’s completing 70 percent of his passes and retaining potency downfield, a development that has made Dallas one of the most explosive offenses in football.
Seahawks defensive coordinator Clint Hurtt is well aware of the challenge his defense faces on Thursday.
“They’re definitely very dangerous,” Hurtt said. “They present a lot of issues because of their talent and they execute at a high level … San Francisco presents challenges with their motions and things of that nature, so they’re different in how they go about doing it. They’re both obviously operating at a very high level.”
Seattle’s defense has struggled in recent weeks, giving up at least 26 points in three of its last four contests. On the road against one of the hottest teams in football, things don’t look like they are getting any easier.
Part of what makes the Cowboys more dynamic has been unlocking veteran receiver Brandin Cooks. In the last three weeks, he’s posted 16 catches for 287 yards and two scores, essentially doubling his production from the first seven games.
The Seahawks boast a strong secondary, but it will be tested again in Week 13. If Thanksgiving was any indication, Hurtt’s defense is trending in the wrong direction. They could very well rely on their new addition -- defensive end Leonard Williams -- to compensate for struggles on the back end.
“The quarterback is playing at a high level, so you have to find ways to be able to disrupt him,” Hurtt said. “Explosive players all over the place … They definitely present their challenges. We’ve got to continue to prepare and get ready.”
Seahawks RB Walker Listed As Doubtful For TNF
If nothing else, Thursday should provide spectators with some quality quarterback play. Prescott’s run is on a crash course with the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 14, and Seattle quarterback Geno Smith is as dangerous as last season, even if the offense around him isn’t exceeding expectations.
Expect some fireworks before Dallas’ mini-bye as the Cowboys once again give their fans a Sunday off.
