Will Dak Break Tony Romo's Cowboys Passing Record?
Dak Prescott insists he does not care to connect himself to individual accolades. But ... sorry, Dak.
Individual accolades care to connect themselves to you.
Being in the MVP conversation, Prescott said this week, simply, means "that this team, we're doing the right thing,. We're winning games ... What I play for is at the end of the year, we're one of the last teams and being the last team standing.
"Obviously, if my name is in those talks then we're putting ourselves in the right spot."
No Cowboys QB - no, not Roger Staubach and not Troy Aikman - has never won NFL MVP. That would be an accomplishment. Meanwhile, Prescott's name could also go into the Cowboys record books in the coming weeks in two categories.
As he and the 10-3 Cowboys prep for a Sunday NFL Week 15 outing in wet and windy Buffalo, Dak has a chance to set Dallas' record for single-season passing yarda (now at 4,903) and a chance to re-set his own record for TD passes in a year, presently at 37 from his 2021 season.
Can Prescott - right now at 3,505 yards passing - average 350 yards per game in the final four? The weather conditions today in Buffalo alone make that a long shot.
So, how about those TD passes? Prescott is currently on pace to tie his own mark, as he has 28 passing TDs through 13. Keep tossing about two per game - theoretically doable - and he again is right in that 37.
Dak Prescott vs. Josh Allen: NFL MVP ‘Finish Line’?
Given that Dak only has six interceptions all year, you add up these numbers and the "Turnovers Are In Prescott's DNA'' crowd must find its head spinning.
In the end, of course, if Prescott puts up those stats, challenging those records, while Dallas keeps winning? The three-letter description won't be the mindless "DNA'' thing.
It'll be a well-deserved "MVP'' thing.
