The Seattle Seahawks got some disappointing news earlier this week when it was revealed that rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba would have to undergo surgery after breaking a bone in his wrist.

The first-round pick out of Ohio State suffered the injury at the end of an impressive catch-and-run last week's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, one that nearly ended with a touchdown.

While he wouldn't completely rule out JSN's potential return for the regular-season opener, Pete Carroll's full response on the timetable indicated the rookie receiver could miss three to four weeks recovering from the injury and subsequent surgery:

While this obviously isn't the news Seahawks fans (or fantasy managers, especially in dynasty leagues) wanted to hear, it looks like Seattle is wisely playing the long game here, preferring to ensure that JSN has plenty of time to return to full strength before putting him back out on the field.

That said, considering the fact that he missed most of last season with the Buckeyes due to a lingering injury, this will be a situation to monitor during the coming weeks.
