DeAndre Hopkins Trade to Eagles? ‘Make the Call!’ - ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky
PHILADELPHIA - With A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, the Philadelphia Eagles already have one of the top wide receiving duos in the NFL. Could the rich get richer?
In an appearance on SportsCenter Tuesday, former NFL quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky said that Howie Roseman and the Eagles should reach out to the Arizona Cardinals and see what it would take to land three-time All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins.
"Could you imagine, if you add DeAndre Hopkins to this offense that's an RPO-based offense with A.J. Brown ... they're gonna get a ton of single coverage ... their big bodies will make the offense even easier to operate."
Hopkins has previously indicated this offseason that he's interested in being traded to the Buffalo Bills or Kansas City Chiefs, but not the New York Jets or New England Patriots. Returning to Arizona doesn't appear to be an option for the five-time Pro Bowler, and until another team pounces, it does leave open the possibility of a surprise suitor emerging for Hopkins.
It feels unlikely that the Eagles will ultimately be that team, but Roseman is famous for checking in whenever a star player becomes available. And Hopkins -- who has 11,298 receiving yards in 10 seasons -- certainly fits that billing.
You do wonder what the range that Hopkins' asking price would have to be in for the Eagles to become a legitimate player. 30 years old, ready to move on and coming off a season where he served a six-game PED suspension, Hopkins isn't going to fetch a first-round pick. There's a very real chance he doesn't go for a second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Eagles don't have any picks in Rounds 4-6, so they may not be eager to give away their third-round pick this year. But if acquiring a Hall of Fame-caliber player to add onto an already-stacked roster presents itself, it's at least something the front office would have to consider.
