Eagles Trade Rumor: Broncos Fire Sale - DB K'Wann Williams Moves To Philadelphia, Proposes ESPN
If there is one bit of clarity as we tick down the final days before the NFL trade deadline, it is this: The Philadelphia Eagles are - surprise! - in go-for-it mode, active buyers in an effort to make what might be the NFC's best roster just a little bit better.
Our evaluation of this week's trade with the Tennessee Titans to get Pro Bowl safety Kevin Byard? Writes our John McMullen: "The deal itself is a textbook example of why Philadelphia has been on top of the NFL for 25 consecutive weeks dating back to the 2022 season.''
NFL’s ‘Apex Predator’: How Eagles GM Roseman Stays Ahead of Competition
Is there another bit of clarity regarding the Denver Broncos? They exist on the other end of the deadline spectrum, a team that is going nowhere ... a team that is insisting via the media that it doesn't plan on being a seller.
And we don't believe that. If the price is right, Denver might very well find itself in "fire sale'' mode ... in a way that sees the Broncos at the very least moving off of disappointing veterans in exchange for late-round picks.
No, we're not talking about some of the star-caliber players on that roster, not as it relates to the Eagles, anyway. But we note that ESPN's Bill Barnwell sees at least one situation, in general, the same way we do: Philly could use another cornerback. And the Broncos might as well start carving away.
Writes Barnwell (paywall): "There's not a place on the roster for (K'Wann) Williams, who is on injured reserve ... and has struggled to stay healthy as a pro. But he has been a solid slot defender when available ...
"The Eagles would send a conditional late-round pick that would only transfer if Williams is healthy enough to play down the stretch and into the postseason.''
Is there DB desperation on the part of the Eagles? No. But is GM Howie Roseman's office open for business for a zero-risk deal like this? We vote "yes.''
