Philadelphia Eagles Adopting 'Growth Mindset' Amid 6-1 Start - Jalen Hurts
Most six-win teams seven weeks into the NFL season would be feeling pretty good about themselves, but the Philadelphia Eagles know there's still plenty they can do to improve.
In a 31-17 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday night the Eagles left with a score that looks more dominant than Hurts' own stat line looks upon examination.
Hurts threw a tipped interception and lost a fumble in the win and has now given away more possessions this season than he did all of last year.
As Philadelphia continues to try and clean up its mistakes the key is going to be the players adopting a mindset of getting better, which the quarterback says is exactly what they team is doing.
"Every person in this organization is owning a growth mindset," Hurts said. "And just trying to be the best we can be. I think the one thing we can never forget is that everyone has a role so the challenge every day is just to dominate that role and learn as much as you can about your role so you can do it at a high level."
The Eagles' second-to-last offensive possession of the game started after cornerback Darius Slay intercepted Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa at the one-yard line in a one-score game.
Starting at his own 17-yard line after Slay's return Hurts and the Philadelphia offense. 83 yards for a lead-extending touchdown and drained six minutes and 35 seconds off the fourth-quarter clock in the process.
It was a key drive, but also a statement one as the Eagles converted two fourth downs to extend the possession and eventually score a game-clinching touchdown with less than five minutes left in the game.
"It's just great trust," Hurts said about the fourth down decisions. "You know, there's a process to everything and [coach Nick Sirianni] tries to implement a process to everything he does so there's a reason for everything. I think that's the best way you can be. For him to have the trust in us and the moments in that situation on all of those fourth downs - go out there and make a play and execute - that's all that matters."
For now, all that matters is that Philadelphia is 6-1 with a road game against the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
In Week 4, the Eagles defeated the Commanders 34-31, and will be looking to earn the season sweep and win their fifth matchup between the NFC East Division rivals in the last six tries.
