Eagles in Trade Market For Avonte Maddox Replacement?

Could the Philadelphia Eagles make a splash in the trade market to replace an injured Avonte Maddox?
In this story:

When Avonte Maddox went down with a season-ending injury in Week 2's win over the Minnesota Vikings, it was clear that the Philadelphia Eagles and Executive Vice President Howie Roseman would have to get to work to fill that hole.

Former Eagle Chris Long thinks that the team could already be scouring the trade market with eyes on some high-level defensive backs.

"He's gonna pick up the phone," Long said. "The first guy off the top of my head was Budda Baker. Love the guy but he's a little expensive, maybe that was emotional of me. Once I came to my senses I said 'Hey Kenny Moore still exists.' He's playing good ball in Indy, they didn't pay him this offseason, he's got length, he can play outside, he's good against man beaters, he can play in the run game."

Baker is a player that Philadelphia was linked to heavily this offseason. He's a five-time Pro Bowler and has made First Team All-Pro twice in his career. The 27-year old Arizona Cardinals safety is one of the best in the league at his position and would elevate the Eagles' defense immensely, but would have a high price tag attached to him.

Moore is probably a more likely target and makes more sense given Roseman's history of trading. He's in his seventh season as the Indianapolis Colts' cornerback, tallying 14 career interceptions and 49 passes defended.

Long noted that Philadelphia likely wouldn't be looking to replace Maddox, who has been with the team for six seasons, but instead fill the hole left by his absence.

"The most important thing is that he's free this offseason, he's free to go," Long said. "You're not trying to necessarily replace Avonte Maddox, but you're trying to win right now. And the thing I've always loved about Howie Roseman has been he's a guy of action, he doesn't punt on the season."

Roseman has always been extremely active and is considered to be one of the best general managers in the NFL. It's only a matter of time before the Eagles make a move to replace Maddox's production.

For now, Philadelphia will rely on its young defensive back depth against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night at Raymond James Stadium at 7:15 p.m.
