Bengals QB Joe Burrow Hints At New Contract After Jalen Hurts Eagles Deal: 'In the Works'
Following the massive contract extensions for Baltimore Ravens quarteback Lamar Jackson Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts this offseason, it seems that Cincinnati Bengals' superstar signal-caller Joe Burrow is poised to be the next player in line for a new deal as well.
Burrow was asked Tuesday about a contract extension.
"I'm involved. It's in the works," he said. "That's not something I like to play out in the media."I'm involved. It's in the works. That's not something I like to play out in the media."
Expressing his eagerness to secure a contract extension promptly, Burrow clarified that he does not downplay his desire to get a deal done soon
"Whenever you have guys on the team that need to be paid, that's on your mind," he said. "It's a focal point."
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman started this contract extension ripple effect last month when Philadelphia signed Hurts to a $255 million extension with $179 million guaranteed.
However, his reign at the top was short-lived, as Jackson surpassed him a mere ten days later. Jackson secured a five-year contract with the Ravens, valued at an impressive $260 million, featuring $185 million in guaranteed money and an average annual value of $52 million.
Considering the ongoing surge in the quarterback market, it wouldn't be surprising if Burrow's extension with the Bengals surpasses the substantial deals secured by Hurts and Jackson. The trend suggests that each subsequent contract exceeds the previous one, indicating a continuous upward trajectory regarding financial terms and player value. Therefore, Burrow's extension could surpass the recent contracts as the trend persists.
The anticipation is widespread that Burrow and the Bengals will soon finalize a new contract, with negotiations expected to occur throughout the summer and possibly extending into the 2023 season.
