Eagles RB Boston Scott Jokingly Summoned by Flyers for Game at MetLife Stadium
Most of the time, Boston Scott is a solid rotational running back for the Philadelphia Eagles who can take some carries when needed. When he plays the New York Giants though, Scott becomes a completely different beast.
For one reason or another, Scott brings his A-game every time he goes against the G-Men. He averages 50.8 yards per game in the eight times he has played New York, by far his highest average against any opponent. Additionally, nine of Scott's 16 career rushing touchdowns have come against the Giants, with six of those coming on the road.
Scott's dominance against the Giants has caught the attention of another local team, the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers. The Flyers are participating in the NHL's annual Stadium Series next season, set to face the New Jersey Devils at MetLife Stadium on Feb. 17, 2024. As such, it only makes sense to enlist someone who knows how to dominate at that venue.
That's what the Flyers tried on Monday, when they jokingly asked the Eagles to borrow Scott for their venture to New Jersey.
Sports teams in the same city interact fairly often, so seeing some friendly banter between the football and hockey franchises is another fun little treat.
Unlike the Eagles (and other Philadelphia teams), the Flyers have fallen on hard times lately. They've missed the playoffs in each of the last three seasons, with longtime stars like forwards Claude Giroux and Jakob Voracek leaving in that time. With a new general manager in former Flyer Daniel Briere, the team is looking to get back on track soon.
Perhaps the Eagles, who have completed a quick rebuild of their own recently, could serve as a blueprint for the Flyers in that endeavor.
