Eagles Bargain Basement Shopping: 3 Free Agent Names to Watch

It's late in free agency, but there are still bargains to be found if the Philadelphia Eagles want to do some more shopping
In this story:

It can be a treacherous walk down the winding stairs into the bargain basement of the free agent market. You sift through the cobwebs to see who’s still there, and, more importantly, why he is still there.

It’s a trip the Philadelphia Eagles could very well make as the brain trust finalizes its draft board leading up to the start of the three-day draft beginning April 27.

Already, the Eagles have brought in seven new players via free agency, that’s when the market was still flush with top-shelf goods. Some of their own returned, too, including James Bradberry, Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, and Jason Kelce.

Bradberry turned a one-year deal signed last year into a three-year contract this offseason to return.

Here are three free agents that could entice the Eagles to make that trek to the basement:

Jarvis Landry. The Eagles seem to be OK with third receiver Quez Watkins, though there were reports he would be available in a trade if the price was right. Even if Watkins returns – and it appears he will – Philly could use some depth at this position.

Landry, 30, is better than depth, but he could be No. 3 and push Watkins to No. 4. That he is still on the market is somewhat surprising, though he only played nine games last year in his one and only season with the Saints after an ankle injury landed him on injured reserve.

He hasn’t had a 1,000-yard season since 2019, but he wouldn’t have to in an offense that runs through receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, and tight end Dallas Goedert.

Dalton Risner. The Eagles are likely to take an offensive lineman early in the draft, perhaps even at No. 10 and it would probably be a player who has tackle/guard versatility. There would be no harm, however, in adding Risner to compete with Cam Jurgens, Jack Driscoll, and a rookie draft pick to be the starting right guard.

The former second-round pick of the Denver Broncos in 2019 has started 62 games at guards since that time, and he is just 27.

Rock Ya-Sin. The Eagles have addressed the cornerback spot with the return of Bradberry, the extension to Darius Slay, and the signing of Greedy Williams in free agency, but another player to throw into the competition to be a backup wouldn’t hurt.

Health could be an issue after a foot injury landed him on IR late last season with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Ya-Sin, a veteran of 38 starts and 52 games, is still just 26. He played at Temple then was drafted by the Indianapolis Colt in the second round, the 34th player taken overall in 2019.

The Eagles hired two assistants this offseason with ties to the Temple program in assistants Tyler Yelk and linebacker coach D.J. Eliot. One of the Eagles’ best defensive players, Haason Reddick, was a teammate of Ya-Sin’s as well.
