Philadelphia Eagles RB D'Andre Swift 'A Big Time Player!' Says Jalen Hurts
Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts is having fun playing with running back D'Andre Swift, who has been a difference-maker to start the season amid a 5-0 start for Philly.
"I just think he's a big time player with the ball in his hands, he's showed that throughout his whole career," Hurts said Wednesday. "To have the opportunity to play with him and see him enjoying being back home and playing in his homeland, it's fun."
After only getting one carry during a Week 1 win over the New England Patriots, Swift has exploded onto the scene in Philadelphia as the starting running back. In the four games since Week 1, he's accumulated 431 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
He has also shown the ability to be a quality receiver out of the backfield, catching 15 passes on 17 targets for 75 yards.
For his career, Swift has tallied 2,114 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns along with 171 receptions for 1,273 yards and seven touchdowns. He spent the first three seasons of his career with the Detroit Lions, who drafted him in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. While he showed a lot of talent in Detroit, injuries kept him from putting in consistent playing time.
The Lions traded Swift to the Eagles during the 2023 Draft along with a 2023 seventh-round pick for a 2023 seventh-round pick and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
The trade brought Swift back to his hometown, as he was born in Philadelphia. He played high school football at St. Joseph's Prep, which is considered to be the top football program in the surrounding area.
Swift, Hurts and company will attempt to continue their undefeated start in Week 6 when they hit the road to take on the New York Jets on Sunday at 4:25 p.m.
