Philadelphia Eagles Shut Out Los Angeles Rams in Second Half, Stay Perfect

The Philadelphia Eagles had a grind-it-out second half in Sunday's win over the Los Angeles Rams.

It continues to not always look pretty for the Philadelphia Eagles. Yet after another far-from-perfect performance against the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium on Sunday, the Eagles have a blemish-less 5-0 record following a 23-14 win over the 2021 Super Bowl champions.

The Eagles took a 17-14 lead at halftime on a last-second "Brotherly Shove" touchdown from Jalen Hurts. It seemed like the two teams would be headed for a thrilling second half, but Philly shut out Matthew Stafford and Co. in the final two quarters. Eagles linebacker Haason Reddick put a fitting end to the defense's strong second half by getting back-to-back sacks of Stafford on third and fourth down late in the fourth quarter to essentially seal the game.

On a day where the Rams saw the return of star receiver Cooper Kupp, who had eight grabs for 118 yards, it was the Eagles' steady defense that limited production and held L.A. to 249 yards of total offense compared to 454 for Philly. It certainly didn't help that t Rams offense couldn't catch a rhythm due to the methodical approach from the Philadelphia offense, which dominated time of possession 37:55 to 22:05.

The Eagles got a season-best game from tight end Dallas Goedert while receiver A.J. Brown had 100 yards receiving for the third straight game. Hurts went 25 of 38 passing for 303 yards, one touchdown and one pick. He also added a season-best 72 rushing yards with one "Brotherly Love" touchdown.

Philly and L.A. traded blows on the first two drives as touchdowns from Goedert and Rams receiver Tutu Atwell had things tied at 7-7 early.

The two teams stalled a bit for the rest of the first half, but then fireworks came in the final minute of the second quarter. Rams rookie sensation Puka Nacua had a 22-yard touchdown with 32 seconds left, which seemed like it'd be the final score of the half. But behind a 38-yard one-handed catch from Brown and a pair of defensive penalties from the Rams, the Eagles were able to line up at the one-yard line and push Hurts into the end zone at the horn.

The second half was a defensive masterclass from the Eagles. All Philly needed was a pair of Jake Elliott field goals in the fourth quarter to keep the Rams at bay, as the defense did the rest.

The Eagles will visit the New York Jets in Week 6.
