Eagles' Jalen Hurts Provides Model for NFL Draft QB Max Duggan
TCU quarterback and 2023 NFL Draft prospect Max Duggan isn't trying to say he's the equal of Jalen Hurts.
He's just answering a question in an innocuous way ... that will almost surely be framed wrongly as a "hot take.''
"Probably someone I kind of play like would probably be like Jalen Hurts, kind of that tough-minded leader, can make the throws any time,'' Duggan said when asked on the Rich Eisen Show to talk about his future. "Can lead a group of men, fought through adversity, things of that sort."
You know what? On the college level, Duggan sort of did do that.
Duggan, who happens to have fans inside Dallas Cowboys HQ who would like to see him available as a Day 3 pick, is a 6-2, 201-pounder Duggan who does have speed as a runner and who does have intangibles. Those attributes were put on display in his breakout season during his final year at TCU, as he led the school to its first-ever national championship game appearance.
He was then a Heisman Trophy finalist after he completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 32 touchdowns (with eight interceptions) and 3,698 yards - and yes, he also rushed for 423 yards and nine more scores.
That part is somewhat Hurts-like.
Chances are, Duggan's upside is as a long-term NFL backup - maybe to Dak Prescott in Dallas. But if he can really do anything at all like Hurts? Duggan will better his chance of being successful at it.
