Cowboys QB Target Max Duggan of TCU: Really 'Rising' On NFL Draft Boards?

Is TCU QB Max Duggan - a Dallas Cowboys target - really "rising on NFL Draft boards''?

FRISCO - Many things changed for quarterback Max Duggan in his time at TCU in the last year. Has something about the Dallas Cowboys' interest in picking him in April's NFL Draft also changed?

The Spun reports that Duggan is "rising up NFL Draft boards.'' But that's not entirely true. Here's what's actually going on ...

Duggan will likely be an intriguing third-day prospect in this spring's selections. And Dallas has expressed an interest there. The Cowboys of course also are dedicated to Dak Prescott, and they re-signed Cooper Rush in free agency.

Dallas thought these things month ago. Dallas thinks these things now.

The Cowboys started doing their due diligence on Duggan before the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, and Duggan was among those they spoke to in Indy.

“I get to meet with them and just go over some stuff, get to know me, get to know them, go over some ball, just start building that relationship. I thought it was a good meeting," Duggan said. “It’d be really exciting to be able to go learn obviously in Dallas with coach (Mike) McCarthy and learn under Dak and learn how to be a pro and everything he’s done to be successful."

Duggan was one of the most prominent stars of TCU's surprise run to the College Football Playoff's National Championship Game, earning 41 total touchdowns in his senior season.

"It would be special to stay home and be part of the Cowboys franchise,” he said.

But this is not a new concept. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones lauded what Duggan brought to the table when the QB worked out at Senior Bowl practices in Mobile earlier this offseason.

“He just looked comfortable. He looked confident. And he was really throwing the ball around,” Jones said then. “He was certainly the most impressive quarterback in my mind.”

That was then. This is now. Where is the "rising up the boards'' stuff coming from?

From here: Our friend Jane Slater, working with NFL Network, interviewed Duggan at the TCU Pro Day, and during that visit, the Cowboys were mentioned. Slater did her job, Duggan did his ...

But the whole concept then went viral as a result of the visit.

In reality, Duggan can't really be moving up teams' draft boards, because to our knowledge most of the teams' boards have yet to be built. And here in Dallas? Max Duggan isn't gaining steam as a potential pick ... because plenty of steam has already existed for months.
