Cowboys QB Meetings: Hendon Hooker, Max Duggan, Jaren Hall at NFL Scouting Combine

“I’m extremely blessed to be here,” QB Hendon Hooker says of a Combine experience that includes Cowboys interest. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, something I’ve dreamed of since (I was) a kid.''

The Dallas Cowboys are committed to quarterback Dak Prescott ... but they are also committed to the idea of grabbing a QB in this year's NFL Draft.

And they are demonstrating that at this week's NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

On the so-far meeting list, it seems: Hendon Hooker of Tennessee, Max Duggan of TCU and Jaren Hall of BYU.

The Cowboys are "intrigued'' by likely high-first-round QB C.J. Stroud, we know - but that connection is highly unlikely. Duggan and Hall? In most mock drafts, they are being taken in the fourth or fifth rounds, making them candidates to maybe learn to serve as a Prescott backup.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has talked of being impressed by Duggan. And now coach Mike McCarthy is reiterating that in Indianapolis.

Hendon Hooker, though, is another matter.

Said Hooker of his talent: "I can make every throw. The way that we run our offense, the wide splits, those are all grown-men throws. I’m not throwing any 5-yard outs. I’m throwing some big-boy balls.”

And, said Hooker of his Combine experience: “I’m extremely blessed to be here. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, something I’ve dreamed of since (I was) a kid.''

It wouldn’t hurt for the Cowboys to dip their toes in the rookie quarterback waters in order to prepare for the future at the position. The Cowboys to have “met extensively” with former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Hooker.

Hooker is still healing from an ACL tear that seems likely to keep him out of any team activity in the summer given that the injury happened in November.

What do the media scouts think of Hooker?

Bucky Brooks thinks he's the No. 3 QB in draft. Dane Brugler doesn't list him as a top-100 prospect. So ... we're left with wondering about the Dallas view of the potential of Hooker - who at 6-4, 222 pounds certainly fits the Mike McCarthy prototype. And the meetings seem to be providing the answer.
