WATCH: Eagles Ex Jonathan Gannon Gives Bizarre Speech

As former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is preparing for his first season as coach of the Arizona Cardinals, one of his speeches to his new team is going viral.
In this story:

Jonathan Gannon -- who spent the past two seasons as the Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator -- is approaching his first season as coach of the Arizona Cardinals. And in a recent episode of the team's in-house show "Cards Flight Plan," he reminded his squad that he's looking for "f****** killers."

"Welcome back. Who drove over here? Quick, let me see your hands," Gannon said to his players. "Who took the bus? Did you have fire in your gut? Did you? We're here for a reason. Don't get that twisted. OK? We're here for a reason, to win games. So if you didn't have that fire in your gut, you better light the fire pretty fast. Be who you are, just understand I'm looking for f****** killers."

On its own, the message of a coach looking for killers is fairly standard. However, the rest of the speech that Gannon gave was bizarre. Why did he ask for a show of hands on which players drove to the team facility, as opposed to which ones took a bus? What was the correct answer?

Clearly, Gannon is quirky, and that alone isn't disqualifying to be a coach at the NFL level. Before problematic material in his e-mails forced him out of the league, Jon Gruden won a ton of games (and a Super Bowl title) in the NFL. Nick Sirianni -- he of the awkward introductory press conference and famous plant watering speech -- has been overwhelmingly successful in his first two seasons in Philadelphia. Perhaps Gannon is next on that list.

But there is a reality that Gannon has inherited the worst roster in the NFL. If the Cardinals win five games this season, that would probably be overachieving. The silver lining is that the more games Arizona loses in 2023, the better chance they'll have to obtain the No. 1 overall pick and draft USC quarterback Caleb Williams. But Gannon will need to get buy-in from players in what will likely be a tumultuous first season. As losses mount, it's fair to wonder how players will respond to his personality.
