Eagles vs. Chiefs Super Bowl Was Most-Watched Telecast Ever
Even for the most casual of fans, Super Bowl LVII between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs delivered in the thrill factor. A 38-35 win for the Chiefs came down to final minute, as millions tuned in to see the result.
But new data now shows that Super Bowl LVII did more than just provide fans with memorable excitement. The big game set records, becoming the most-watched U.S.-based telecast of all time, per revised ratings data from Nielsen.
Broadcasted on FOX, the Eagles-Chiefs matchup had an average of 115.1 million viewers across all platforms, was is about two million more than what Nielsen had previously announced. This new number helped set the record, surpassing the 114.4 million average viewers from the Patriots-Seahawks thriller on NBC in Super Bowl XLIX in 2015.
FOX said in a statement that Nielsen's delay on finding the true ratings figure from the broadcast was due to "the result of a thorough review by Nielsen that revealed irregularities in the encoding that enables Nielsen's measurement of TV viewing as well as in the measurement of out-of-home viewing."
The NFL once again proved that it reigns supreme, breaking its own Super Bowl record once again. It might be hard to top a Jalen Hurts-Patrick Mahomes matchup for next year, but the Eagles have already been doing everything they can this offseason to make sure they're back in the big game to exercise their demons after blowing a 24-14 halftime lead.
