NFL Betting Odds: Eagles' Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith Among Favorites for Rookie of the Year
Already coming off an appearance in the Super Bowl, the excitement has somehow grown for the Philadelphia Eagles after the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Highlighted within more of general manager Howie Roseman's magic was the two first-round selections of Georgia Bulldogs teammates and pass-rushers Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith. Both regarded for possessing freakish skill on the defensive line, the Eagles have been credited for coming away with one of the best draft hauls in this year's cycle.
Some easy and early evidence of this is the recently-released betting odds from SI Sportsbook that give both Carter and Smith solid chances to take home Defensive Rookie of the Year. Carter finds himself right near the top of the favorites with Smith not too far behind.
Will Anderson, LB, Texans: +350
Jalen Carter, DT, Eagles: +650
Tyree Wilson, EDGE, Raiders: +700
Devon Witherspoon, CB, Seahawks: +1100
Christian Gonzalaz, CB, Patriots: +1100
Lukas Van Ness, DE, Packers: +1400
Nolan Smith, EDGE, Eagles: +1800
It's entirely possible that Smith and Carter either cancel out each other's chance or that that the balanced d-line attack along with Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham will make it tough for either rookie to stack the numbers necessary to win the award. Still, their impact is sure to be felt as Day 1 starters in Philly.
Eagles fourth-round rookie cornerback Kelee Ringo, another Georgia product and teammate of Carter and Smith's, also made his way onto the betting odds list. He's way down there at +3300 odds, but having three Eagles in the realistic conversation for Defensive Rookie of the Year speaks volumes to the work Roseman and Co. did in this year's draft
