The Philadelphia Eagles received big news on Thursday as starting right tackle Lane Johnson announced that he is cleared for action ahead of the start of OTAs, which will begin on Tuesday, May 30.

Johnson unveiled the news via his Twitter account, and it was certainly a welcomed sight for Eagle fans after the team made him one of the highest-paid offensive tackles in the NFL this offseason.

Johnson agreed to add one-year extension to his four-year contract, which was previously worth $72 million back in 2019. But as part of the extension, Johnson will now be with the Eagles through 2026, which will net him $30 million in guaranteed money.

The new deal came after the 32-year-old played through injuries during the Eagles Super Bowl appearance as he dealt with a groin injury and a torn adductor muscle. Despite the injuries, Johnson kept his streaks alive of not allowing a sack, something he hasn't done since 2020, and he hasn't allowed as much as a quarterback hit since 2021.

Since being taken No. 4 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft, Johnson has become a staple in the Eagles' offensive line bookending the right side. Having a healthy Johnson is a formula for success, as evidenced by Philadelphia's 13-22 record without him compared to a 79-47-1 when on the field.

In 2023 the Eagles will look to get back to the Super Bowl and, this time, win it after being essentially a defensive holding penalty away this past February. Johnson and the offensive line will hope they can find the success they had a season ago as one of the league's best units. They did the dirty work for an offense that ranked third in yards per game, second in points per play, and sixth in yards per play.
