'I Need To Go Home!' Eagles Ex Malik Jackson Announces NFL Retirement
Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Malik Jackson is officially hanging up his cleats after a 10-year NFL career, he announced Friday on "Good Morning Football."
"That was the goal. 10 to 12 years was my goal," Jackson said. "I was able to get to a point where I was doing OK. I was doing pretty well for myself. I did enough. I have a daughter, and I need to go home and be with her and start living life."
Jackson spent two years with the Eagles in 2019 and 2020, although he missed most of the former season after suffering a foot injury in Week 1. He appeared in 15 games and started six in 2020, recording 28 tackles, six tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
A 2012 fifth-round pick out of Tennessee, Jackson spent the first four years of his career with the Denver Broncos. After helping the Broncos win Super Bowl 50 in February 2016, he signed a lucrative six-year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency. The Jaguars released Jackson halfway through the deal, which allowed him to make his way to Philadelphia on a three-year deal.
After being released by the Eagles in 2021, Jackson joined the Cleveland Browns in a reserve role for what would be his final NFL season. He did not play in at all in 2022.
Jackson finishes his career 292 tackles, 63 tackles for loss, 35.5 sacks and a Pro Bowl selection in 2017.
