Eagles Boast Most Players on PFF’s ‘Top 30 Over 30’ List
Pro Football Focus is a polarizing outlet in the NFL community, but Philadelphia Eagles fans are certain to like their latest list.
PFF recently ranked the top 30 players 30 years or older ahead of the 2023 season, and the Eagles had four representatives, the most of any team:
- C Jason Kelce: No. 10
- RT Lane Johnson: No. 11
- DE Brandon Graham: No. 13
- CB Darius Slay: No. 29
The only offensive linemen ahead of Kelce and Johnson were San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams (No. 1) and Cleveland Browns left guard Joel Bitonio (No. 7).
But even on a list that features multiple future Hall of Famers above him, we're left to feel like Johnson isn't truly appreciated enough nationally. Johnson has gone multiple seasons without giving up a sack. The two-time All-Pro is the equivalent of a shutdown cornerback -- he just entirely takes any edge rusher lined up against him out of the game. A pair of performance-enhancing drug suspensions early in his career could complicate things, but Johnson, like Kelce, is going to have a compelling Hall of Fame case when his career concludes.
Meanwhile, Graham finished 2022 -- his 13th NFL season -- with a career-high 11 sacks. Though the former first-round pick bordered on being a bust early in his time with the Eagles, he's turned into one of the most consistent defensive forces in franchise history.
And Slay almost feels like the icing on the cake given that he seemed headed elsewhere earlier this offseason, only to eventually sign a two-year, $42 million extension to return for a fourth season in Philadelphia.
