Eagles Swing Big in Kiper's Final Mock Draft
With the 2023 NFL Draft set to begin Thursday night, the season of mock drafts is coming to a close, as analysts are sharing their last-minute forecasts with less than a few hours left until the first round commences.
One of these analysts is ESPN's Mel Kiper, who has his final first-round predictions for the Philadelphia Eagles.
With the No. 10 overall selection, Kiper has the Eagles selecting Texas Longhorns running back Bijan Robinson.
"The Eagles might prefer to trade back, but why not take an elite runner/receiver who could help them win now?" Kiper writes. "It might go against the organization's philosophy to take a running back this high, but the fit is logical, whether it's at No. 10 or a few spots later. If it's not Robinson, I thought about tackle/guard Peter Skoronski (Northwestern)."
With running back Miles Sanders departing for the Carolina Panthers in free agency, the Eagles find themselves in need of a new starting running back for the 2023 season. While the loss of Sanders is undoubtedly a blow to the team, the Eagles could have promising solution, at least according to Kiper's mock draft.
For the Eagles' second first-round pick at No. 30 overall, Kiper has Philadelphia selecting Pitt defensive tackle Calijah Kancey.
"This is a fit I've liked for a long time," Kiper wrote. Kancey can wreck games from the interior line, and NFL teams covet that type of player. He's so quick at the snap. He's undersized -- 6-foot-1, 281 pounds -- but he had 13.5 sacks over the past two seasons. He'd fill a hole in Philly."
Beyond the 2023 season, there are uncertainties about the defensive line of the Eagles. Both Brandon Graham and Fletcher Cox are playing on one-year deals as their tenure with the team is coming to a close. Moreover, Kancey's addition to the team helps address the absence of Javon Hargrave, a Pro Bowl defensive tackle who left in free agency this offseason to join the San Francisco 49ers.
Only time will tell what the Eagles do, but Robinson and Kancey would be two picks that would bode well with the fan base.
