The Indianapolis Colts brought in one former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback this offseason when they signed Gardner Minshew. However, they sent another out the door when they released Nick Foles on Friday afternoon, per reports from ESPN.

Foles signed a two-year contract with the Colts last offseason with a base value of $6.2 million and $4 million guaranteed.

But, unsurprisingly, the Colts have decided to cut Foles, as it would result in a clear $2.1 million in cap space, with only $1.5 million in dead money. Adding another veteran in Minshe would allow for the grooming of their potential future quarterback and No. 4 overall pick, Anthony Richardson, which makes Foles dispensable.

In the 2017 season, Foles became a Philadelphia legend after stepping in for an injured Carson Wentz and leading the Eagles to a Super Bowl LII victory over the New England Patriots. He was awarded Super Bowl MVP.

However, Foles struggled to maintain that level of success afterward. Despite leading the Eagles to a 4-1 record in the regular season and a playoff win the following year as a starter, Foles could not replicate his Super Bowl heroics.

Drafted in the third round in 2012 from the University of Arizona, Foles has played in 71 regular season games, starting in 58. He has completed 62.4 percent of his passes for 14,227 yards, 82 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions, earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2013. Foles has also started all six postseason games, winning four and completing 68.1 percent of his passes for 1,633 yards, 11 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Even on a one-day contract, a Philly reunion would not be out of the realm of possibility for the Super Bowl LII MVP should he want to retire as an Eagle.
