Eagles Sign Ex Falcons WR Olamide Zaccheaus
With the 2023 NFL Draft about a week away, the Philadelphia Eagles are adding quality depth to their elite receiving corps.
The Eagles have signed former Atlanta Falcons receiver Olamide Zaccheaus, per reports Wednesday from ESPN. After playing the past four seasons with the Falcons, who signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2019, Zaccheaus is heading home.
Zaccheaus grew up in Plainfield, N.J. only about two hours northeast of Philly. He then attended the University of Virginia before heading south to play for the Falcons.
His impressive NFL journey now sees him arrive to Philly, where he will look to compete with Quez Watkins for the WR3 role behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith. The past two seasons showed that Zaccheaus is certainly capable of claiming that spot on the depth chart.
Last season, Zaccheaus posted career-high marks in catches (40) and receiving yards (533) while tying his career-best with three receiving touchdowns. He's also showed impressive durability, playing in all 24 possible regular-season games over the past two years.
Zaccheaus heads to Philadelphia right after Jalen Hurts' massive contract extension was announced on Monday. With Brown and Smith set to be an even bigger focus for opposing defenses next season, the chemistry between Hurts and Zaccheaus could prove to be extremely vital to Philly's Super Bowl-or-bust aspirations.
