Eagles Projected to Have Most Wins in NFC Following Schedule Release
The Philadelphia Eagles are trying to do something not many NFL franchises have accomplished by reaching back-to-back Super Bowls.
Super Bowl trips are not as rare for the Eagles as they are for other teams, having been to four, but they've never been to two in a row.
If their season win projection by NFL.com holds true, Philadelphia - which obviously isn't guaranteed a return trip - would have the No. 1 Seed in the NFC Playoffs and a significant head start in achieving that goal.
"The Eagles have a good chance to rack up wins in the early portion of the season," says NFL.com. "In 58.1 percent of simulations, their record heading into the Week 10 bye is 7-2. After that, though, they face the toughest five-game stretch on their schedule: at Chiefs, Bills, 49ers, at Cowboys, at Seahawks. Weeks 11-15 will really tell us a lot about this team."
The early part of the schedule the site is referencing begins with a road trip to face the New England Patriots in Week 1. The Pats plan to honor quarterback Tom Brady - who famously lost Super Bowl LII to the Eagles - during that game.
While the Patriots fell to Philadelphia in their second title fight against each other, they did return to the Super Bowl the next year making them one of just eight losing teams to do so in NFL history.
New England is also one of just three to lose the big game one year only to return and win it the next. The Buffalo Bills famously returned to three Super Bowls after losing the previous one, losing all four times.
That 2018-19 Patriots squad is the last to accomplish what the Eagles are setting out to do this season, and getting a win on the road against the team they last beat in the championship round with their Hall of Fame quarterback looking on is a great way to get that journey started.
Can't think of a better way to start a classic Philadelphia success montage in fact.
