Eagles Sign WR Freddie Swain, Reunite Him with Coach Brian Johnson
The Philadelphia Eagles announced Thursday that they have signed receiver Freddie Swain. In three seasons in the NFL, Swain has caught 42 passes for 576 yards and six touchdowns.
Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson is familiar with Swain, as the two were both at the University of Florida in 2018 and 2019 when Johnson was the quarterbacks coach.
Johnson spent two years as the quarterbacks coach with the Gators before being promoted to offensive coordinator. After a year, he left to join Philadelphia as their quarterbacks coach in 2021. When offensive coordinator Shane Steichen left the Eagles for the Colts head coach job after Super Bowl LVII, Johnson was promoted to offensive coordinator.
Now, they have been reunited as Swain was signed by the Eagles before their last preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday.
Swain was drafted in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks and spent two seasons there. The bulk of his career production came in Seattle, as he caught 38 passes for 502 yards and six touchdowns as a Seahawk.
Swain started last season with the Denver Broncos before being waived and then signed by the Miami Dolphins. After not seeing much time with either team, he has found his way onto the Eagles roster.
