Eagles Super Bowl Letdown: How To Avoid A 'Wrong Repeat'

The Philadelphia Eagles have some experience in the Super Bowl as a modern NFL franchise, but its what came after that they're looking to avoid.
In this story:

The Philadelphia Eagles are coming out of a season where they represented the NFC in the Super Bowl and nearly came out of it as champions.

A win would've been the Eagles' second Super Bowl title in six years, but the two teams winning it would've looked much different the second time around.

That's because following the first appearance, Philadelphia went through massive letdown, and widespread changes on the roster and in the coaching staff.

"The last time Philly reached the Super Bowl, offensive coordinator Frank Reich bolted for a job with the Colts. The Carson Wentz-led offense was never the same," says NFL.com when identifying the last remaining need for the defending NFC Champions. "This time around, the Eagles saw a pair of top lieutenants ... jet for head coaching gigs ...The roster is ready. There's not much to pick on, especially if Philly's OC/DC duo hits the ground running."

Something that should help this Eagles team continue success beyond their Super Bowl experience is the mentality of its quarterback.

Fortunately for Jalen Hurts, he didn't have to experience what Wentz did when he watched his backup Nick Foles not only take the team to the big game but win it.

While it sounds strange that any Super Bowl win could be negative, the reports about Wentz disliking his team finding ultimate success without him are largely considered part of what led to his falling out with the franchise.

Hurts, on the other hand, just signed a massive extension and from recent accounts is more determined than ever to lead his team back to the final game of the NFL's season-long journey to one Lombardi Trophy recipient.

The mentality is different, and despite several key departures the roster seems to be just as talented - and may become even more so depending on development and usage by these new coordinators.

All of it still has Philadelphia expected to be the top dog in the NFC, and make another run at a second Super Bowl title.
