One of the more entertaining aspects for fans and media leading into a new NFL season is picks and predictions. While largely based on unscientific opinion - regardless of what some media outlets suggest - fans would like to think their teams are the "favorite" to win the Super Bowl each season, however unrealistic that may be.

As far as unscientific opinion goes, NFL.com might have a slight edge on others based simply on who it is and what it does. So Philadelphia Eagles fans might truly appreciate this year's championship predictions, as the Eagles show to be the second most popular pick of favorites to be Super Bowl champions in 2023 among media outlets everywhere.

With the talent that Philadelphia boasts on its roster, it's not hard to understand the love that the Eagles are receiving here. But having just lost last season, is history on Philly's side to win next year? Just three of 57 teams have lost a Super Bowl and won the next.

The 1971 Cowboys, 1972 Dolphins, and 2017 Patriots all won after losing the season prior. That doesn't bode well for an Eagles team hoping to get back to the championship game and win its second Lombardi Trophy. The rest of the NFL is now well aware of what Philly can do headed into a season where another Super Bowl appearance is the expectation.

But maybe the "experts" know best.
