Philadelphia Eagles Trade Idea: Quez Watkins to Carolina Panthers?
The Carolina Panthers are seeking a receiver to help out No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young ... and maybe the Philadelphia Eagles could help them out.
With Quez Watkins struggling to find playing time while simultaneously working his way back from a hamstring injury that has forced him to miss the past two games, perhaps a change of scenery to the Panthers could be what's best for his career.
After recording over 1,000 yards in the past two seasons combined, Watkins may not be the biggest name available, but it would be affordable for the Panthers, who don't have a first-round pick in 2024 after dealing for the No. 1 pick that ended up being Young from the Chicago Bears.
Watkins, 25, has caught two passes for 17 yards this season and has been inactive for the past two weeks. Olamide Zaccheaus has done well in his absence, even catching a touchdown in the Eagles' Week 3 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Watkins is a free agent at the end of the season, so by trading him ahead of the Oct. 31 deadline, the Eagles can get some value for him in the event that he signs elsewhere in free agency.
Given his placement in the depth chart and the looming DeVonta Smith extension, Watkins likely could get a better offer in free agency from another team.
It could be in the best interest of all parties for Watkins to be dealt now, have a chance to truly showcase his talents and make as much money as he possibly can on his next deal that he will likely sign this offseason.
