Eagles Embarrassed by Giants in Week 18: Live Updates, Highlights
Quarterback Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles need a win over the New York Giants at Metlife Stadium Sunday afternoon and some help if they are going to win their second consecutive NFC East title.
The bad news for the Eagles is they have lost four out of five games since starting 10-1, and have likely put themselves in position to go on the road for the entirety of a potential playoff run. The good news is that over those five games, the only win the Eagles have was a Christmas Day victory over the Giants at Lincoln Financial Field. For however uninspiring that 33-25 win by the Eagles may have been, they'll look to replicate it Sunday and defeat a 5-11 Giants team for the second time in three weeks.
For the Eagles to win the NFC East, they'll not only need to beat the Giants, but they'll need the Washington Commanders to upset the Dallas Cowboys. While Washington will get to host the Cowboys, they have lost seven consecutive games and are as much as 13.5-point underdogs depending on what sportsbook you look at. Maybe a Week 18 miracle will happen, but the Eagles likely cost themselves the NFC East by falling to the Arizona Cardinals a week ago.
Will Eagles WR A.J. Brown Still Be an All-Pro?
Regardless of whether it's as the NFC East Champions or a Wild Card representative, the Eagles will have a playoff game next weekend. And they need to handily beat the Giants on Sunday to have any sort of momentum heading into the postseason.
You can follow along for live updates and highlights throughout this afternoon's game between the Eagles and Giants...
First Quarter
Defensive Drive 1
The Eagles won the opening coin toss and deferred to the second half. Quarterback Tyrod Taylor found receiver Darius Slayton for an 18-yard gain, but the Giants ended up punting four plays later.
Offensive Drive 1
Like the Giants the Eagles recorded one first down on their opening drive -- with the largest chunk coming on an eight-yard pass from Hurts to receiver Quez Watkins -- before punting the ball back to New York.
Defensive Drive 2
A nine-play, 67-yard drive for the Giants was capped off with a 24-yard field goal by Mason Crosby to give New York an early 3-0 lead.
Offensive Drive 2
With the Eagles approaching the red zone, Hurts hit Brown on a slant pass for nine yards. However, Brown fumbled it and then went down with an injury. What a disaster.
Defensive Drive 3
With Tommy DeVito in at quarterback for a seemingly-injured Tyrod Taylor, the Giants went three-and-out.
Second Quarter
Offensive Drive 3
Hurts and the Eagles went for it on fourth-and-three, and the quarterback wasn't able to connect with tight end Dallas Goedert, turning the ball over on their own 48-yard line.
Hurts went into the medical tent after appearing to injure his finger on the fourth-down throw.
Defensive Drive 4
With Taylor back in at quarterback, the Giants extended their lead to 10-0 after a nine-play, 48-yard drive was capped off on a two-yard touchdown rush by Saquon Barkley.
Offensive Drive 4
Hurts returned for the next offensive series, but it wasn't fruitful. Dane Belton sacked him for a 14-yard loss on third down, forcing another punt.
Defensive Drive 5
The Giants extended their lead to 17-0 thanks to another Barkley touchdown rush. It's fair to wonder how much longer coach Nick Sirianni will keep in the starters with how the game is trending.
Offensive Drive 5
It's hard to overstate how ugly things have been for the Eagles in the first half. The Eagles went three-and-out once again, with linebacker Bobby Okereke sacking Hurts on second down for a 12-yard loss.
Defensive Drive 6
Barkley didn't score a third consecutive touchdown, but he helped to set one up. Taylor found Barkley for a 46-yard reception down the left sideline. On the next play, Taylor hooked up with Slayton for a 19-yard touchdown, extending New York's lead to 24-0.
Offensive Drive 6
Hurts took a deep shot to receiver Julio Jones on third-and-eight. What proceeded next -- upon further review -- was an incredible interception by Giants safety Xavier McKinney.
Defensive Drive 7
The Giants went three-and-out on this drive, taking just 23 seconds off the clock before punting the ball back to the Eagles.
Offensive Drive 7
Hurts was pulled with the game out of hand. Backup Marcus Mariota proceeded to throw an interception on his first pass, with McKinney again coming down with the ball.
Defensive Drive 8
Taylor quickly gave the ball back to the Eagles, with James Bradberry tipping a pass intended for Sterling Shepard into the air and Reed Blankenship picking it off.
Offensive Drive 8
The Eagles ran three plays before the first half concluded, ultimately being shut out across the first two quarters.
Third Quarter
Offensive Drive 9
After a delay of game penalty on fourth down, the Eagles decided to punt. Punter Braden Mann delivered the first good offensive play of the day for the Eagles, pinning the Giants inside the five-yard line.
Defensive Drive 9
DeVito again replaced Taylor on this drive after he was banged up. The Giants would ultimately punt back to the Eagles on the ninth play of their drive.
Offensive Drive 10
Jake Elliott barely snuck a 36-yard field goal inside the left upright, cutting the deficit to three touchdowns.
Fourth Quarter
Defensive Drive 10
Early in the fourth quarter, the Giants punted the ball back to the Eagles after a five-play drive.
Offensive Drive 11
Mariota connected with Watkins for a 16-yard touchdown, giving the Eagles their first touchdown of the day and cutting the deficit to 24-10.
Defensive Drive 11
A 12-play, 72-yard drive for the Giants concluded with another field goal from Crosby, this was from 21 yards. This extended New York's lead to 27-10.
Offensive Drive 12
On the second play of the drive, Jihad Ward stripped the ball from Mariota, and Azeez Ojulari recovered the ball.
Defensive Drive 12
The Giants weren't able to add onto their lead after the fumble recovery, as Crosby ultimately doinked a 45-yard field goal attempt off of the left upright.
Offensive Drive 13
Ojulari took Mariota down for a sack on the final play of the game, putting the Eagles out of their misery and wrapping up a 27-10 loss.
