Eagles vs. Buccaneers Monday Night Football: How to Watch, Betting Odds
The unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles travel south to Tampa to take on the 2-0 Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium on Monday night.
The Eagles (2-0) have not been as dominant as some thought they would be coming off a Super Bowl appearance last season, and the Bucs (2-0) have been far better than most expected under new quarterback Baker Mayfield.
“Listen, are we going to be playing the same football we played on Feb. 12 last year right now? No, we’re not. Nobody is,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. “We’re on this climb. We’re starting back from the beginning.”
Philly held off a late charge by the Patriots in Week 1 and survived against Minnesota on Thursday Night Football. In Tampa, Mayfield has yet to turn over the ball since taking over for Tom Brady under center. The Bucs beat the Vikings in Minnesota to open the season and then gave the Chicago Bears their 12th straight loss last Sunday.
“The thing we did best last year was take it one day at a time, one game at a time, everything. Little bits at a time,” Sirianni said. “It’s a hard mindset to have because you want to have the expectations. ... And, it’s not necessarily the expectations of us. It’s expectations of the outside world.”
Mayfield is with his fourth team in two seasons and lost eight of 10 starts with the Panthers and Rams last year. He's faced nothing but criticism since being the No. 1 overall pick in 2018, but it doesn't bother him.
“That’s been the narrative, but we’ve known the whole time what we have in this locker room and the team that we’re trying to build, where we’re trying to head,” Mayfield said. “The important part now is not letting the outside noise affect us in the building. We didn’t let it affect us before, why let it do it now?”
Sirianni's goal for this week is to simply improve.
“We understand everybody is going to have opinions, and we just have to focus on ourselves,” Sirianni said. ”We have to focus on getting better every day. It’s really as boring and monotonous as that. Just put your head down, go to work, block out noise if you’re somebody that gets affected by that.”
