Who's Falcons Fantasy Football 'Breakout Player'?
As rankings develop for the 2023 season, fantasy football fanatics have kept a close eye on NFL OTAs, looking for players who could unexpectedly emerge to blow up the scoreboard to outperform expectations or draft positions.
Which players could be labeled as "breakouts" this season?
Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson is among CBS Sports' top fantasy football breakout players for 2023:
"Robinson has big play potential every time he touches the football and becomes just the fifth running back since 2015 to be selected in the top 10 of the NFL Draft," CBS Sports writes. "The last four had strong rookie years as lead running backs and averaged 1,664.5 yards from scrimmage."
Robinson rushed for 1,580 yards and 18 touchdowns while averaging 6.1 yards per carry with 19 receptions for 314 yards and two touchdowns last year at Texas. The No. 8 overall pick is joining a run-heavy offense in Atlanta.
Last season Atlanta led the NFL in attempts (559), ranked third in yards (2718) and fourth in YPC (4.9). Rookie running back Tyler Allgeier led the team with 1,035 yards. With a chance for back-to-back Falcons rookies to surpass 1,000 yards rushing... Allgeier and Robinson could be a nasty backfield duo.
Robinson's teammates have praised his humble-attitude and good work ethic through mini camp.
"He doesn’t really talk too much, but he gets the job done,” wide receiver Drake London said. “He’s an electric back, and we’re excited to use him in all aspects of the field.”
With a new-look roster, the Falcons hope to reach the postseason for the first time since 2017. Atlanta currently has middle-of-the-pack-odds(+116) to make the playoffs in 2023... But a massive leap is possible with the youthful core. If Robinson can produce in the pros like he did college, he will certainly be a breakout fantasy player and could help his team make a huge jump towards the postseason.
