Falcons WATCH: Calais Campbell Turning Back The Clock?
As the expression goes, age is just a number, and recent footage from the Atlanta Falcons training camp shows Calais Campbell playing like his younger self.
In the video, Campbell looks as strong as ever, effortlessly lifting his teammate off the ground while going through a drill.
At age 36, Campbell will be looking to prove that he's still got some juice left in the tank after signing with Atlanta this offseason.
Campbell hasn't had more than 10 sacks in five years, but the former first-team All-Pro could play a significant role for the Falcons this season despite no longer being in his prime.
The 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year has seen great success throughout his career and could help Atlanta's defense even more as a locker-room presence than as an individual.
When 2023 kicks off, Campbell will be one of the most decorated pass rushers to ever suit up in a Falcons uniform. Hopefully, that means Atlanta's younger pass rushers will follow his example and improve the Falcons' pass rush, which had an abysmal 21 sacks combined last season...literally less than multiple players have had individually throughout NFL history.
Atlanta may have had the second least sacks in the entire league in 2022, but 2023 is a new year, and with it comes a new defense ready to leave the organization's recent defensive struggles in the past.
Whether or not the Falcons' defense improves this upcoming season remains to be seen, but the explosiveness and strength that Campbell has displayed in camp is a promising sign of what could be coming from the unit this year.
