Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback and coach June Jones is in trouble with the law. Jones, 70, was arrested and taken into custody in Honolulu on Friday night on suspicion of driving under the influence, as reported by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Jones was able to secure his release after the incident by posting $500 bail.

Jones' explanation included only that he was speeding on his way back from dinner. "I was speeding and got stopped," Jones said. "I was coming from eating dinner. That's all I need to say right now."

Jones had a career as a quarterback, playing four seasons with the Falcons and one season with the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL before transitioning into coaching. Initially, he worked as an offensive assistant for various college and NFL teams. Eventually, he assumed the role of coach for the Falcons from 1994-96, amassing a 19-29 record. During his tenure, he helped lead the Falcons to the postseason in 1995, where they lost to the Green Bay Packers in the wild card round. Following his time in Atlanta, Jones served as the interim coach for the San Diego Chargers in 1998.

In 1999, he was hired as the coach for Hawaii, where he achieved a commendable 76-41 record and secured four bowl victories during his nine-season tenure.

After the conclusion of the 2007 season, during which Hawai'i achieved an impressive 12-1 record, SMU made the decision to hire Jones as their coach. However, despite the high expectations placed upon him, Jones encountered challenges throughout his seven-season tenure with SMU, resulting in an overall record of 36-43.

After leaving SMU, Jones embarked on a new chapter in his coaching career as the coach of the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats for two seasons. Later, he took on the roles of coach and general manager for the XFL's Houston Roughnecks. Most recently, Jones served as the offensive coordinator for the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons during the 2023 season, contributing to the team's impressive 7-3 record and securing a postseason berth.
