Texas Tech DE Tyree Wilson 'Excited' About Falcons After Formal Meeting; No. 8 Pick?
INDIANAPOLIS -- The Atlanta Falcons will enter this offseason in need of pass rush help, and Texas Tech defensive end Tyree Wilson is a plausible solution to that problem.
Better yet? The two sides have already had a formal interview, with Wilson revealing the info in his NFL Scouting Combine press conference on Wednesday.
How'd it go? The 6-6, 275-pounder left with a positive impression.
"I'd be excited to play for the Atlanta Falcons," Wilson said, along with mentioning his respect for the organization.
Wilson is one of the draft's premiere pass rushers and isn't guaranteed to be on the board when the Falcons are on the clock with the No. 8 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
NFL Network draft expert Daniel Jeremiah mentioned that some teams he's spoken with have Wilson ranked above Alabama outside linebacker Will Anderson as the draft's top exterior pass rusher, and with news of the arrest warrant surrounding Georgia defensive tackle and potential top pick Jalen Carter, Wilson's rise up the board may only continue.
The Falcons also formally met with Clemson defensive end Myles Murphy.
Wilson, 22, had 14 tackles for loss and seven sacks in 10 games for the Red Raiders and earned first-team All-Big 12 honors as a result.
A three-star recruit out of Henderson, Texas, Wilson led the Power 5 conferences in quarterback pressures (50) before suffering a fractured foot that will keep him out of most combine drills.
But nonetheless, Wilson proved himself worthy of top-10 consideration - and would be "excited" about bringing his talents to Atlanta.
