NFL Mock Draft: Falcons Take 'Outstanding' Northwestern OT Peter Skoronski

The Atlanta Falcons could eye an offensive lineman in this year's draft with Kaleb McGary testing free agency.

The Atlanta Falcons are hoping to replicate the success the offensive line had this past season for 2023.

That may be challenging with Kaleb McGary going into free agency, meaning tackle could be the ideal position to target as a start to the team's draft class.

In ESPN's latest mock draft, Northwestern tackle Peter Skoronski is mocked to the Falcons.

"Atlanta has Kaleb McGary and Chuma Edoga headed to free agency, meaning the offensive tackle depth chart is barren," ESPN writes. "And for a team that relies so heavily on the run, the line has to be a focus. Questions about Skoronski's length should get answers at the combine in a few weeks, but man, this guy's quickness, balance and awareness are outstanding.

"He takes great angles as a run-blocker, which should open things up for Tyler Allgeier and whoever else is taking handoffs next season."

The Falcons are building an identity by running the ball. As the league's third-best rushing offense this past season, it'd be wise to invest more into that part of the offense, and the trenches are key. That's why spending a pick on Skoronski or another top tackle makes sense for Atlanta and can help them return to the playoffs next season after a five-year drought.
