OFFICIAL: Falcons Interview Bill Belichick for Coach Vacancy, ‘Mutual Interest’
The Atlanta Falcons’ long-tenured speculation surrounding their interest in Bill Belichick has reached new heights.
The Falcons announced Monday they’ve interviewed Belichick for their open head coaching position, which emerged after firing Arthur Smith on Jan. 7.
Further, NFL Network adds “no deal is imminent” between the two sides, but there is “mutual interest” and conversations are still on going.
Rumors emerged Sunday that Falcons owner Arthur Blank hosted Belichick on his yacht in the U.S. Virgin Islands. NFL Network confirmed the two parties met in person.
Belichick, who parted ways with the New England Patriots on Jan. 11 after 24 years and six Super Bowl wins, has a career record of 302-165.
New England went just 29-38 in the four years following Tom Brady's departure, marked by inconsistent play under center.

The Falcons' head coaching search now includes interviews with six candidates - Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald and associate head coach/defensive line coach Anthony Weaver, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan and Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero.
Atlanta has also requested interviews with Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris, Las Vegas Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce and Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.
The Falcons have long been linked to Belichick, dating back to the regular season when both he and Smith still held their respective roles.
