Falcons Ex Matt Ryan Making Tony Romo Money at CBS?
Former Atlanta Falcons MVP quarterback Matt Ryan will call games on CBS with Tiki Barber and Andrew Catalon this upcoming season.
This will be Ryan’s debut as a broadcaster, and he’ll be looking to follow in the footsteps of multiple other quarterbacks that have carved excellent careers for themselves in the media world, such as former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who signed a $180 million contract with CBS in 2017.
Ryan hasn’t officially announced his retirement since being released by the Indianapolis Colts following a disappointing season which included getting benched despite the team trading a third-round pick to the Falcons for him last year, but he's now embracing a media career.
As a broadcaster, Ryan should provide great insight as one of the best pocket passers in recent league history. Despite his career being tainted due to some unfortunate blown leads with both the Colts (33-0) and while in Atlanta (28-3), Ryan saw success that few players ever have.
In his prime years with the Falcons, Ryan was a four-time Pro Bowler, one-time All-Pro, the league’s MVP in 2016, and led his team to a Super Bowl appearance. He averaged over 4,100 yards passing per season in his career, and his touchdown to interception ratio is better than 2-1.
Calling games alongside another great offensive talent in Barber, a legendary New York Giants running back, perhaps Ryan will be able to find himself a second career now that the best of his playing days are behind him at age 38. Regardless of how he does in the booth, he'll always be remembered as one of Atlanta's greatest players.
