‘Danny Dimes’ to Atlanta? Rumor Connects Giants QB Jones to Falcons
Boasting the second most cap space in the league, the Atlanta Falcons could - according to one rumor - look to bring in veteran quarterback Daniel Jones this offseason.
Last offseason, the New York Giants decided not to opt into the fifth-year option on Jones’ rookie contract, and it could come back to haunt them.
Playing under new coach Brian Daboll, Jones would flourish, posting the best season of his young NFL career and leading New York into the divisional round of the playoffs.
Jones now has an apparent desire for a contract that pays around $45 million per season [A number that would place him among the top five highest earners at his position, up there with Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes], but if the Giant hits free agency, Pro Football Network believes that Atlanta Falcons make sense as a suitor for his services.
“Given the amount of cap space at their disposal and their lack of a veteran QB, Jones would present an intriguing option for the Falcons,” PFN said.
We think the likelihood is that the Giants keep ‘Danny Dimes,” one way or another; Tuesday is tag deadline day, so we will know more soon …
But we know this now: With the No. 8 overall pick in this year’s draft and a boatload of cap space at their disposal, Atlanta will likely bring in competition for their QB1 spot in one way or another this offseason.
