New Falcons Pass Rusher Calais Campbell Cracks 'Top 30 Over 30' List
With receiver Drake London, running backs Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, tight end Kyle Pitts and cornerback A.J. Terrell, the Atlanta Falcons are building a talented young core that they hope will lead to an era of sustained success.
However, there's always room to add an accomplished veteran.
The Falcons did just that this offseason, signing six-time Pro Bowler Calais Campbell to a one-year, $7 million deal. And even as he enters his age-36 season, Pro Football Focus recently ranked Campbell at No. 25 on their countdown of the top 30 players over the age of 30:
"An ageless wonder, Campbell will be 37 years old by Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season, and he’s not graded below 71.4 since 2010. With incredible consistency and a high level of play for over a decade, Campbell has provided value to three different teams and is about to join his fourth. With another strong season, Campbell could crack 100 career sacks in 2023."
A second-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2008, Campbell has racked up 99 sacks, 165 tackles for loss and 16 forced fumbles in a 15-year NFL career that's also seen him spend time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens.
As noted above, Campbell was still pretty productive a season ago for the Ravens, recording 5.5 sacks, four tackles for a loss, two pass deflections and two forced fumbles. His addition could help a Falcons team that went 7-10 a year ago to compete for a division title in a wide-open NFC South.
