Falcons Ramping Up Pressure, Know Sacks Will Come

The Atlanta Falcons haven't had much success in bringing quarterbacks down this season.
In this story:

Every defensive player's favorite thing to do is get pressure on the quarterback and bring him down for sacks.

A timely sack can add to the momentum of a winning team, or serve as a thief of hope for a team looking to come back. Unfortunately for the Atlanta Falcons, they have struggled to bring the quarterback down this season ranking No. 30 in terms of sacks this season with just three on the year, with only the Chicago Bears and New York Giants trailing them.

When discussing the team's inability to bring down the quarterback, defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen explained there is more than just sacking quarterbacks when it comes to making a difference.

"The most important thing is the pressures," defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen said. "When you look at the third down numbers, the pressures with the coverage together, that was working really well in our favor in that game. But don’t want the guys to overly press for that because it happens. Just continue to hit the quarterback and he’ll hold it just a count longer, and then that’s when they really come.”

This weekend's matchup in London may not be the one where they begin to get home on the quarterback, as Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has only been sacked six games thus far. A mark that is tied for the fourth lowest in the NFL.

The Falcons and the Jaguars are set to kickoff at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:30 a.m.
