NFL Record Projections: Falcons 'Definition of Mediocre?'
Few teams reshaped their roster like the Atlanta Falcons.
Offensively, Atlanta's biggest splash came in the draft by taking Texas running back Bijan Robinson with the No. 8 overall pick. On defense, the Falcons used free agency to add much-needed talent with the likes of safety Jessie Bates III along with defensive linemen David Onyemata and Calais Campbell.
But will those moves be enough to turn Atlanta into a contender?
Bleacher Report projected win totals for each team and predicted Atlanta would win less than seven games.
"The Falcons are the definition of mediocre in almost every single way," Bleacher Report writes. "There isn't enough talent on either side of the ball for them to make a run, but there's just enough to hang around .500 in a bad division. The jury's still also very much out on Desmond Ridder."
Bleacher Report projected the Carolina Panthers would win over eight games, while they predicted the New Orleans Saints would win less than nine games and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would win less than six games.
Winning less than seven games would be a nightmare for the Falcons. Atlanta has won seven games in back-to-back seasons, so to regress after the offseason they had would be nothing short of disappointing.
A season of that caliber likely means the Desmond Ridder experience at quarterback didn't work. If rolling with Ridder doesn't work, a change at quarterback is almost a certainty.
It would also be a sign that some of the Falcons' moves in free agency backfired as well.
The NFC South isn't a juggernaut. There's uncertainty surrounding each team, which is why none of them are predicted to win over nine games.
If Atlanta can't win over seven games in a division like the NFC South, big changes could be on the table next offseason.
