Déjà Vu: Will Compton Signing With Falcons?

Approaching training camp, will linebacker turned media personality Will Compton finally get the 'Year 10' contract from the Atlanta Falcons that has long alluded him?

Free agent NFL linebacker Will Compton is still holding out hope the Atlanta Falcons will finally sign him to his ‘Year 10’ contract, something that has become a bit of a meme amongst fans of his podcast.

The Bussin' With The Boys co-host has been enamored with the idea of playing a decade in the NFL since signing with Washington as an undrafted free agent in 2013.

Last season, the underdog’s wish seemed to become a reality with the Falcons after he tweeted a video addressing the matter.

“I could not have envisioned a better situation than signing with the Atlanta Falcons,” Compton said. “Ever since they blew that lead at the Super Bowl, the 28–3 lead, I knew at some point in my career, I’d have to do whatever it took to bring this city a little bit of hope.”

As any tier-one fan of the podcast knows, the contract unfortunately fell through allegedly because of his business endeavors off the field.

While that sounds legitimate, due to his podcast’s affiliation with gambling and Atlanta’s recent gambling history with former wide receiver Calvin Ridley getting a season-long suspension, it’s somewhat confusing considering that his co-host Taylor Lewan was rostered by the Tennessee Titans last season (albeit injured), and there seemingly was no issue with that.

Some speculated that the NFL blocking Compton’s return was due to his grudge against the face of Barstool Sports, Dave Portnoy. A well-known Boston sports fan,  during Tom Brady’s infamous Deflate Gate suspension, Portnoy had protests trolling NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Nevertheless, Compton recently tweeted the following in response to a Colin Kaepernick SI interview saying that he’s still got what it takes and trains in hopes of returning to the NFL, “Update: I am still waiting for a call as well. I’d like to piggyback on this story and make them my words, too.”

Whether or not the NFL allows Compton’s ‘Year 10’ to become a reality remains to be seen, but it’s safe to assume that if the Falcons call him, he’ll be ready to suit up in pads by training camp.
