Report: Atlanta Falcons 'Standing Pat' at Trade Deadline, Update on Bijan Investigation

Atlanta Falcons general manager Terry Fontenot appears poised to keep his current roster intact entering the season's second half.
In this story:

The Atlanta Falcons enjoyed the most active trade deadline in franchise history last year, swinging three deals on the final day ... but don't expect that to be the case this year.

According to The Athletic, the Falcons "appear to be standing pat based on multiple conversations around the league."

Other teams in the same position include the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams and Houston Texans.

Atlanta sits at 4-3 entering Week 8 and currently leads the NFC South over a pair of three-win teams in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints.

At last year's deadline, Atlanta was 4-4 and also leaders of the division. General manager Terry Fontenot traded receiver Calvin Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars and safety Dean Marlowe to the Buffalo Bills while acquiring cornerback Rashad Fenton from the Kansas City Chiefs.

This time around, with the Falcons boasting a more well-rounded roster, it seems next Tuesday - which is also Halloween - won't involve many tricks or treats from Fontenot and staff.

Before then, Atlanta has a key road game on its schedule, taking on the Tennessee Titans this Sunday inside Nissan Stadium.

All the while, the Falcons remain under investigation by the NFL for not disclosing running back Bijan Robinson's headache prior to last week's win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Robinson played only 11 snaps and saw just one carry. Atlanta knew its rookie phenom was feeling under the weather but didn't report it pregame, which violates league policy.

Falcons coach Arthur Smith said everything is transparent in 2023 and he hadn't given any thought to the league's investigation - but per The Athletic, Atlanta may receive a fine once the process concludes.

"If (the NFL) discovers the Falcons violated a league rule, they’ll most likely face a fine," The Athletic said. "We won’t know for a few weeks."

Atlanta will look to retain its lead in the NFC South this Sunday, with kickoff against Tennessee set for 1 p.m. EST - but Fontenot and the rest of the Falcons' decision makers evidently have plenty to handle away from the field in the meantime.
