Report: Falcons Interested in Hiring Patriots' Bill Belichick
The Atlanta Falcons have a head coaching vacancy after the firing of Arthur Smith early Monday morning.
Smith went 21-30 in three seasons with the Falcons, never achieving a record better than 7-10.
Now, the Falcons are forming their wishlist for who will replace Smith, and they are going for none other than arguably the most decorated person in the profession.
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Falcons are interested in New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick if he were to leave his post in Foxboro.
Belichick, who turns 72 in April, has been the Patriots coach since 2000. However, he hasn't won a playoff game since Tom Brady left for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020.
The Patriots finished 4-13 this season and questions are beginning to arise about Belichick's future. Belichick has guided the Patriots to unprecedented success over his 24 years with the team, but with the team falling to the bottom of the AFC this season, there's a very real chance his time in New England is running out.
Arthur Smith's Falcons Tenure Ends Fittingly - What's Next?
Atlanta may be the most interesting destination for the six-time Super Bowl champion. The Falcons have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball, but deficiencies at coach and quarterback have held them back from their full potential. Belichick would certainly fix one of those problems, and with his reputation, solving the other one shouldn't be hard.
